The Michael Oertel Band is a folk and blues band from Germany.
With their new album A Little Faith (released June 21st 2019) they went back to their musical roots of Blues, Folk, and Rock’n’Roll with an organic, powerful, and rather eclectic album, sonically reminiscent of the 60’s and 70’s and reduced to the essentials. The album was almost entirely recorded live and is a result of the long time the band has been working and playing together.
In their live shows they combine folk music with highly energetic rock`n`blues.

The People's String Foundation is a South West based band; they mix passionate theatrics with an urban gypsy sound. The band is led by composers and musicians Ben Sutcliffe and Zaid Al-Rikabi (musical directors for Rogue, Kneehigh and 'Owdyado Theatres). They mix artisan flavours with urban/world beats; this is a band that can work as a duo right up to a 24-piece orchestra.
The People's String Foundation is fast being recognised as the musical heavyweight of the South West. They tour the festival and theatre circuits as a two to seven piece band; they encompass a grass roots level philosophy, working with the community and schools to promote local music and arts.
The band's Acoustic Duo Show includes their own music, and some of the best songs and compositions that they've created from their time working as musical directors. Their compositions are melodic, wistful, and dynamic as well as upbeat and fast, designed to get people's toes tapping. The People's String Foundation is on a mission - to make something big and beautiful with plenty of heart, well honed musicianship, and a grafter's spirit.

Chloe Mogg and Band
Delivering a mixture of musical influences, Chloe Mogg creates a musical journey with both her original songs and own arrangements of covers. As a young singer-songwriter with "parrot" hair, she brings life and colour to her performances. Known for her quirkiness and smile, she haunts the audience with her ability to tell a story with only her voice, guitar and effects pedals. Returning to West Malvern to perform with her new band, we can take a fresh look at Chloe"s songs - think Jeff Buckley meets Wolf Alice.
Hannah Law and Tree of Wyrd
Singer-songwriter Hannah Law is also from Stourport. A two-time winner of Wyre Forest Young Musician of the Year awards, Hannah is a fan of all things quirky with her roots in both rock and folk; her lyrically driven songs aren't afraid of crossing genres or convention to tell a good story. Hannah's band is Tree of Wyrd

Scottish-Italian singer and songwriter Adriana Spina"s sound is often hard to categorise - she has worked hard to craft her own blend of Americana, folk, and country. Her music progresses through reflective, thoughtful acoustics to gutsy, guitar-driven power, and touches on themes ranging from lost love and infidelity to atheism and the European refugee crisis.
Most recently, she has featured on the bill of Celtic Connections (2018), and has also had the honour to be invited by Joan Armatrading to support her on the Scottish dates of her most recent world tour. Adriana has also opened for acts of the calibre of Sheryl Crow, Paolo Nutini, Eddi Reader and Dar Williams.

Mike Dennis is a classically-trained violinist whose boyhood love of Run DMC, Beastie Boys and Gangstarr led him to create a unique kind of string-heavy hip hop music he refers to as Violinica. With the aid of looping, Mike combines layers of harmony with thoughtful, energetic rhymes drawing inspiration from daily British life. Mike is taking his new album Edge in Wordways out on the road for his first UK tour - you've never seen anything like this anywhere, let alone in Malvern!
Bristol-based synth-pop duo Fourth Engine return to West Malvern having enhanced their reputation with appearances all around the UK. Combining retro and modern synth-wave influences with emotional vocals, you can expect to hear some powerful new additions to their set list as work on their debut album is well underway.

Yes, US singer-songwriter (and so much more) Eliza Rickman is performing here in Malvern.
This is the same Eliza Rickman who has appeared on the Welcome to Night Vale podcast, and toured with their live shows. And who has toured the US with the likes of Rasputina, and the UK with She Makes War. The very same Eliza Rickman who set a world record for raising support for a crowd-funded music video - see the video here (warning: not suitable for work / kids / anyone who doesn’t like gore).
Plus, the welcome return of alt-indie-pop favourite Rookes (watch on Youtube).

“Went to see the Julie July Band and have just got home. Very emotional experience. The band played were excellent and Julie’s singing was superb. You close your eyes and you are listening to Fairport. Thank you Julie July xx” (Steve)
“Enjoyed the show so much you were so magical and mesmerising….I will be buying tickets for next year” (Kari)
“A truly great songwriter touches people and leaves an everlasting impression” ……and that’s what Sandy Denny achieved in her short musical career. A singer-songwriter in her own right and considered a founder of the British Folk-Rock movement, she left a legacy of beautiful, haunting and romantic songs that transport the listener to another time and place.
The band and I have been performing Sandy’s music around the UK for a number of years now and, to mark 40 years since she left us, we decided to record some of our interpretations of her songs in an Album – Who Knows Where the Time Goes? and launch it in our home town of West Malvern.
For me the journey has been emotional: I have met and had the pleasure of performing with some wonderfully talented musicians and - sadly – we lost Martin our drummer along the way.
I feel so humbled and privileged to be able to sing her songs – they evoke real feelings in me and I am moved. And the audience that come to listen feel it too and, together, we keep her memory alive.

Elizabeth Cornish doesn’t tell stories. Instead she gives you a tantalizing glimpse into her world and invites you to fill in the gaps for yourself. Following a number of studio releases with her band, Where Were We Then, her first home recorded album, sees Cornish return to her musical roots as a solo, acoustic artist. Her cathartic songs overflow unashamedly with raw emotion. They are simultaneously fragile and powerful and, although they touch on dark and painful subject matter, they are never melancholy. On the contrary, Cornish’s poetry, infectious choruses, and waltzing guitar lines lift you up and leave you feeling hopeful.
While Displaced, her debut album, dealt with her struggle to make sense of her nomadic upbringing, Where Were We Then is an expressive journey about enduring love, personal loss, and grief. Inspired by folk, country, and indie-pop singer-songwriters including Laura Marling, Lucy Rose, Jason Isbell and John Moreland to name a few, Cornish effortlessly weaves elements of these genres into her delicately crafted songs while remaining undeniably true to her artistic origins as a through and through singer-songwriter.
Where Were We Then will be released on 27th April 2018 and is available through Timezone Records.

Bio:
Rosie Bans is a fierce Glaswegian independent artist. Drawing inspiration from the songwriting skills of Imogen Heap, Amanda Palmer and Tori Amos, she is a far cry from many of the piano-pop singer-songwriters dominating the industry today.
Musically educated at The Ian Tomlin School of Music, Edinburgh, Rosie Bans’ compositions stitch soulful elements together with jazz, soul, pop, rock and punk. With these "honest, sonically complex and inspiring creations, Bans succeeds in fusing together varying musical styles" (Gig Slutz) to create a fresh and really exciting original sound.
"a talented writer of intensity and integrity" The Musician Magazine "honest, sonically complex and inspiring creations" Gigslutz

Fourth Engine and Nature of Wires team up for a Synth Music Spectacular.
Entry by donation, bring your friends!
Doors 8pm; music at 9pm.
Dark, electronic trio Nature of Wires hail from Herefordshire. Active from 1986 to 1994, Andrew Stirling-Brown (vocals) and Gary Watts (synths and programming) toured the UK and released music that captivated fans with its melodic but muscular take on the synthpop sound that was popular at the time. Life and responsibilities led to the band taking a short break - which ended up lasting two decades - until good fortune brought them back together in 2014. With renewed vigour and a desire to show the World what it missed, they set to work on new material, producing the Cyber Rendezvous album, a collaboration with Californian vocalist CountessM, released on Manchester’s AnalogueTrash label in July 2016.
The past year has seen Nature of Wires go from strength to strength: writing new music and developing intricate and dazzling live shows with the help of the band’s newest member Tim Powell-Tuck (live electro-drums). They have been performing live across the UK since their reformation, including a BBC Introducing session, Foundations Festival in Salford, the BBC stage at Tenbury Music Festival and the SynthWave Live Festival in London. Their music has featured in the Top 5 Artefaktor Radio chart positions in five consecutive months April-August 2017, as well as getting airtime on local BBC stations in the UK and synthpop/alternative radio programmes worldwide.
Fourth Engine are synth-pop duo Russ Dallen and Rachel Trimble. From Bristol, their emotive lyrics and passionate vocals merge seamlessly with classic 80s synth roots and more recent dancefloor influences to form a musical soundscape which is at once melancholy and thoughtful, yet uplifting and edgy. Formed in 2015, their debut EP Breakdown – released in 2016 – covered such concepts as self awareness, psychological emasculation, and the fickle and shallow nature of the pop music industry. The pair made their live debut at The Tunnels in Bristol, in February 2018, at the launch of local synth-rockers Sinestar’s third studio album A Million Like Us; they are now eager to bring their thought-provoking songs to more audiences. They are currently working on new material for their first album - due for release in 2018.
Their EP is available at fourthengine.bandcamp.com.

Tyler Massey is the opening set.
Luckless is the Berlin based, New Zealand originated project of Ivy Rossiter. Based on solo vocals with a 1960s' Silvertone electric guitar and hypnotic and dynamic live looping, the sound is poised somewhere between the ethereal haze of indie-folk and the propulsive drive of alt-rock; it draws inspiration from 90s heroes PJ Harvey, Mark Lanegan, and Sparklehorse.

Remi Harris is an exciting young guitarist from the UK who's unique style blends elements from Gypsy Swing, Jazz, Blues, Rock'n'Roll, Hip Hop and World Music. Primarily self taught with the help of his Dad's guitar magazines and records, Remi started playing at the age of 7, initially inspired by rock and blues guitarists of the 60s and 70s such as Jimi Hendrix, Peter Green and Jimmy Page. In his late teens he developed an interest in jazz music, in particular artists such as Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery and Stan Getz. Since then he has been growing a reputation for blending all of his influences into his own individual style of playing. He has toured worldwide as well as performing at Buckingham Palace, BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall with Jamie Cullum, on BBC 4 Television and live on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 3.

The Stoned Cherries in their current form came together in summer 2014, based in Bromyard around the core members Roger Pugh and Dave Evans. With the addition of Matt and Aly, a band appeared that enjoys playing original and traditional songs and tunes that make people dance, smile and think.
Roger and Dave write the original material, and Aly leads on the traditional tunes, while Matt keeps the whole thing together.
The band plays with verve and passion, and a sprinkling of humour keeps audiences entertained. Gigs have included Worcester Music Festival, Earth Fest at The Fold, Bransford, the opening night of Bromyard Folk Festival, A Major Folk Festival at The Majors Arms in Halmonds Frome, The Lowfield Inn at Marton, The Criterion in Leicester, The Sun Inn Leintwardine, Folk Down the Track , Knucklas, Knighton Community Hall and the Sylvester Horne Institute, Church Stretton.

Adventurous creative players are drawn to each other, and the first time Tim and Brendan met, the musical sparks flew! Others feel it too: after only a year together, they won the award for 'Best Duo' in the 2012 BBC2 Folk Awards.
The duo's powerful blend of passion and virtuosity is infectious. What sets them apart from most folk/Celtic acts is their free-wheeling approach to live performance. Tim and Brendan love to improvise, which means that every time they do a piece it sounds different and fresh. It's that sheer mad spontaneity which unfailingly captures audiences everywhere.
Tim and Brendan are two of the biggest names in the worldwide, acoustic and Celtic scene. Between them they have worked with everyone from Sting to Christy Moore, Altan, The Chieftains, Kate Bush, Dougie MacLean, Mary Black, and loads more.
Be prepared for a night of unforgettable music, song, and entertainment ranging from Celtic to blues, Balkan to jazz, and great join in choruses.

Here's what the BBC says about this event:
"BBC Introducing in Hereford & Worcester supports unsigned, undiscovered and under-the-radar musicians from Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
"Since 2011, we've been taking the show out on-the-road showcasing the very best musicians from our two counties.
"Once a month, we've been recording acts chosen by us at a variety of venues across the area - including at some of our biggest festivals. Our next recording session takes place on Sunday 30 March at the West Malvern Social Club and features four acts we've been playing on BBC Hereford & Worcester recently.
"It's free to get in - and this is your chance to see how we capture live music on tape, while being able to enjoy some of the hottest new acts we've got in our area right now.
"None of these acts knew they were being considered for a live session - they were chosen based on the tracks they uploaded to bbc.co.uk/herefordandworcester/introducing.
"Doors open at 2pm - but you're more than welcome to turn up anytime until 6pm."
Come and support your local bands; have a day out at the WMSC; see how radio programmes are actually made.
The bar will be open as usual; check out the Social Club.
